OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
Late yesterday, BNSF operating teams responded to a derailment in Kansas, near Wellington on our Panhandle Subdivision, approximately 34 miles southwest of Wichita. Both main lines reopened this morning, although customers may expect lingering delays as the affected signal infrastructure undergoes repair and traffic continues to normalize.

BNSF crews remain focused on maintaining improved service performance as we begin moving trains for fall harvest and prepare for peak intermodal shipping season. BNSF teams have positioned operational resources in critical locations, are prepositioning snow removal equipment at facilities, and completing all mainline maintenance on crucial routes. Regarding key service metrics, in the first full week of September, we experienced our best railcar velocity in the past 12 months with a weekly average of 197.4 miles per day. In the most recent two weeks, we’ve had four days where our average railcar velocity was above the 200-mile-per-day mark. Additionally, terminal dwell was down and is performing better than the month prior. The local service metric, which reflects our effectiveness in handling carloads, was down slightly versus the prior week but slightly increased from last month.

As previously reported last week, trains were delayed as BNSF crews responded to a track washout on our Needles Subdivision. Service was restored to both main lines the following day.

SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
Over the weekend, freight with east coast interchange locations may experience delays as Hurricane Lee makes landfall in the northeast.

The rest of the network will experience favorable operating conditions during the upcoming week, with no severe weather events expected at this time.
