Automotive Network Update for Friday, May 8, 2026

Date
May 8, 2026

Operational Performance
The operation is delivering stable overall service performance across the network. Car velocity improved modestly week over week but remained below prior month levels, and terminal dwell increased slightly. Our local service compliance measure, which indicates our efficiency in handling carload freight, is currently trending at nearly 91%, continuing to improve both week over week and month over month.

Seasonal maintenance activity continues across multiple subdivisions as part of BNSF's capital program to support long-term network reliability. This includes maintenance of way activity across the Northern Transcon on our Hi Line Subdivision, which runs between Havre and Whitefish, Montana. This work is being coordinated to minimize disruption while positioning the network for more consistent performance heading into the summer.

Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Weather conditions are expected to remain generally favorable across much of the BNSF network through the upcoming week. An active pattern across the Southern Plains may bring periods of thunderstorms and localized heavy rainfall, which could result in brief, localized operating adjustments across portions of Texas and Oklahoma.

Across the western United States, warmer temperatures are expected to expand, with temperatures reaching or exceeding 100°F across portions of the Desert Southwest and seasonal heat increasing into parts of the Northwest. BNSF teams will continue to monitor conditions closely and position resources as needed to support safe and consistent operations.
